'Zombie Experiment' Wreaks Havoc on Streets of New York City...

Hi Phil,

Thanks for sharing about that "Zombie experiment"... The makeup seemed pretty realistic!

It's strange - but soon after I read your post, I saw a bunch of "zombie"-related happenings in one of my local city newspapers! (Of course, the fact that Halloween is around the corner may have something to do with it!)

These are all commercial zombie-happenings... That is, people are actually making money from these zombies!

A lot of it is because, zombies are quite attention-getting. (Think of Seth Godin's "Purple Cow".) With Halloween being around the corner, I think there are more zombie commercial happenings than usual!

First, I came across a night of Zombie bowling!

It costs $5 to participate - the main "gimmick" is everyone comes along dressed like a Zombie!
"All zombie enthusiasts are invited to an evening of undead entertainment! Brought to you by Melbourne Zombie Shuffle, ZombieHire.com and Strike Bowling Bar, 'Night of the Bowling Dead' pits zombie against zombie to uncover who will claim the unholy honour of Melbourne's Top Zombowler. This exhibition tournament is an 18+ event and the first 50 guests to arrive will receive a free promotional zombie showbag packed with mystery zombie goodies. Members of the public are not required to dress up (just to sit back and watch the spectacle!) Doors open at 7pm and all proceeds from the $5 entry fee goes to Melbourne Zombie Shuffle."

Then, I saw a free event, called the "Zombie Shuffle." As far as I can tell, the main plan is to wander around town as a group - with everyone dressed as zombies!

While it is a free event, it ends up at a pub (also called "hotels" sometimes here in Australia, which can be confusing), so the pub is bound to make some moolah from this, by selling their drinks to the zombies who end up there...
"What do we want? BRAINS. When do we want it? BRAINS. Don your best ripped clothing and porridge make-up FX, because you and a couple of thousand other zombies will moan your way down Swanston Street searching for brains. For the first time there’s an official party afterwards: DEAD END at the Corner Hotel from 6pm, with a line-up of The Snowdroppers teamed with Drunk Mums, Double Black, Burn In Hell & Cherrywood. And did you know zombies go bowling, too?"

And finally, I saw a reference to a real "zombie-based" business - Zombie Hire!

This is a business which specializes in hiring out - you guessed it - zombies!

Why would someone hire a zombie?

Some of the reasons they list are ad campaigns, promotional events, festivals, and "zombie-o-grams"!

Wow... I never would have thunk there'd be so many zombie-based things going on... With people (apparently) making money from it, too!

Best wishes,

Dien
