Default Has anyone read "Godel, Escher, Bach" ?

Has anyone read this book?

Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid
by Douglas R. Hofstadter
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0465026567/

I bought it after someone recommended it to me. But didn't know that it was 700+ pages long when I ordered it! The whole introductory note by the author is 23 pages long!

I read about 40 pages yesterday - and I can say that it is one of the hardest books I've read. But it also looks quite fascinating.

From what I've read till now, it seems like the author tries to find the meaning of "I" or conciousness from the principles behind Godel (mathematician), Escher (artist) and Bach's (musician) work.

Has anyone else read it?
