A similar thing happened to me. A neighbor needed their driveway shoveled and I did it. Later while working on a film project the same neighbor gifted me with interviews for that same project... no charge. Additionally, they helped me sell a boatload of books I had published at the time. At this point in my career I was doing a lot of things all at once. My next door neighbor at the time had a couple of boys who I made a few balloon animals. These balloon animal gifts inspired one of the boys to become a globe-trotting, balloon-making maven who got constant media coverage over and over again. You never know the influence you have when you do something for someone. This makes me think about who I will be influencing today. It is what I do that makes the impact in most cases rather than what I end up saying to someone. |
