I've been lurking around the posts here for sometime and have found and enjoyed some very interesting discussions. Today, I thought I'd throw this out here... What would you do to make (not borrow) at least US$2,000 in 30 days starting from scratch - no business, product or customers? Resources available - yourself, access to pc, internet, local library, US$100. Was just wondering what some of the smart operators would do in this situation? Have a great day! Brian |

![]() I Have done it in my tax business. But your questions is harder. Create a product in 24 hours and start selling like crazy. Then put an ad in U.S. Today asking for investor showing the great profit you made.

![]() A. To motivate myself, I would put a catchy plan together like "The 30 Day Power Program" and break the goal of $2000 into weekly income goals and finally a daily income goal
B. Form a brief, simple business plan you are going to use to generate income. Since you are looking for money quickly and have little money to start, services and sales with payment due from the customer immediately are the only ways you can go. You would have to forget about billing for whatever you are going to be doing since you only have 30 days. C. Use proven methods of generating customers for little or no money. Since you only have $100 you will need to make your marketing materials yourself and forget about getting fancy. This would not be the time to reinvent the wheel or get creative. You don't have time to sell someone on new catchy schemes. I'd use direct selling, telemarketing, getting referrals, and generally circulating yourself to your target market. I would use email in a low volume method to target your market and collect names from existing businesses or individual web sites. D. Work hard. I would not work less than a 12-18 hour day to get things going. I would begin each day at 7:00 am organizing my day for an hour, followed by a few sales calls. The rest of the day until 5:00 pm I would either continue sales calls or perform service and after 5:00 pm I would get on the phone if I was targeting residential customers and not stop until 9:00 pm. If I was targeting business customers I would get on the computer at night and find prospects. E. Diversify and work even harder. To ensure my success, I would work 7 days a week. I would litterally work my @#$ off until I made $2000. I would ad some gravy money to my main activity by using weekends to scavenge and locate under-priced consumer goods to resell for a profit. Since you are limited to methods that will make money immediately, buying and selling will offer you the advantage of immediate cash flow and open doors to increase your net worth. F. At the end of each day, jot down what is working and what is not, and continue to refine your approach everyday. I would have a hard time believing that if you did all of this that you would NOT earn $2000 in a month. I think $5000+ is more like it. PS. Work harder and smarter everyday. Then work even more. Anyone can make $67 a day doing pretty well anything - from washing windshields at traffic lights to selling door-to-door. Throw in some chattel deals and the $2,000 a month barrier should be EASILY broken. Of course, when I say easily I don't mean it will be easy, I mean making more than $2,000 a month will virtually be a guaranteed - your $67 a day "enterprise" will get your there and your chattel deals will push you over the top. > B. I believe it went something like this... 1: Decide HOW MUCH money you want. 2: Decide WHEN you want the money by. 3: Decide on what EFFORT you will put in to get it. 4: Take ACTION - start doing what you decided you would do in step 3. 5: ADJUST your ACTION as you go, to keep on track with step 1 and step 2. 6: KEEP GOING - keep taking ACTION doing what you said you would in step 3, and adjust as needed. 7: COUNT YOUR MONEY. So to use the $67 a day thing, it would look like this... 1: AMOUNT $67 a day ($469 a week) 2: TIME One day (one week) 3: HOW selling detergent door to door 4: Knock on doors with a small carry basket with detergent in it. 5: Knock on doors where people appear to have: a) nice car b) nice house c) mowed lawn d) are home 6: Sell one, then two, then three, then four, and so on, until you have sold your supply. Then get more and sell them again. 7: Count your money. 22 single bottle sales at $3 profit per sale makes you $66. 11 two bottle sales at $6 profit per sale makes you $66. 1 eleven bottle sale - to someone who wants to give the detergent to others, or likes buying in bulk - at $3 profit per bottle makes you $66. Don't like residential door to door selling, hit a highrise office building. Start at the top and work your way down. Don't want to sell detergent, then try something else. I guess the bottom line as with anything is: 1. Define your goal. 2. Put together your plan of action. 3. Take action. 4. Adjust your action until you get there. But its great to have some ideas on how to do all of this and what actions are possible. Thanks again for the input. ![]() A few years ago, I got involved with painting address numbers on curbs as part of a Children’s Hospital fundraiser. I tried some different ways to do the addresses to increase the public’s desire to have them.
I came up with an attractive version that was more appealing and the response was a little better than usual. After the fundraiser ended, I continued with it in an attempt to work it as a real business. Using fliers, my response rate was the typical 1% to 3%. Knocking on doors to pitch the service would increase that to about 12%. That was good, but not good enough for me, so I stopped doing it. Two years ago, a local Fire Dept. had an awareness program about the importance of highly visible addresses to help in emergency situations. I got an idea and captured their “official” information and went back to work. I tested a lot of approaches and found that the Fire Dept. info was very effective and I eventually developed a series of very effective strategies that results in a consistent 60%+ response rate. Just recently, I used the same fire dept. info as part of a pitch to neighborhood homeowner’s associations in an attempt to get letters of approvals from them to show to the residents. What I got were articles about my service along with my contact information in some association newsletters. With others, I’ve contracted with them to do all the homes in their associations at a reduced rate of $12 each, instead of the usual $15. Even without association endorsements, I get a very consistent 60% to 80% positive response rate with the strategies I developed. The kicker is that I nave to knock on doors to accomplish this (something a lot of people are not willing to do). But, for me, where it used to be a frightful chore, it is now very empowering since the response rate is always so high. Sometimes it becomes a block event where people come out of their homes and hand me money to do their address so they don’t miss out. When a few of the neighbors have the service done (they attractive way I developed) most of them want too. Sometimes, I’ll do a couple of addresses for free, just to get the ball rolling, but the strategies all involve elements of human nature and that never changes – therefore my results always remain high. Doing just 20 a day at $15 each is $300. 7 days of that gives me $2100. And, the cost to do the job is only 14 cents each, since I no longer put out fliers. It does take about 6 to 8 hours a day and it does involve knocking on doors and using the right strategies of what to do and say, but it does produce consistent results and I just love it! I’m so busy all the time, but I can work when I want. I even figured out how to do business in the rain! I also discovered other products and services I can offer to those who purchase the curb address. (Back-end products). Now I need to add some employees! That’s how I do it, Lawrence |

What I really wanted to figure out was how to get the Home Owner's Associations to endorse this for their residents but my efforts seemed to be in vein. Just a couple of months ago, I figured out how to do that part and once I got a little response, I used that to encourage other associations to do the same. I needed to establish myself first as a reliable business that produced an attractive and superior product. Then I figured out what gets the response from the associations. I now have contracts and articles in their newsletters that keep the money rolling in and quite easily, I may add. Now, with this very important aspect secured, I will finish my program, since I know this information can be of great help to many people. Lawrence |
