![]() Hello All:
I am brand new to this forum and recently received a copy of Gordon's Beginner's Guide to Chatteling. After asking Gordon if he knew of any Chattelers forum (to get ideas from and ask questions from others that are involved). He made the suggestion why not ask this forum? There are already fantastic posts of interest and ideas that have not occurred to me. Are there any more members that are interested in the value of forming a qroup for this purpose? Thanks in advance. |

I will NOT be participating in any groups formed, so I want to clear the air about that. There are some people who "fly low" on the forum, and they are putting chattel deals together and a couple are progressing on their TOLL positions, Bob Blagg would be a good person to contact regarding TOLL positions and how to locate potential tolls. The number one question I get asked is "What do I buy?". And in the Chattel Report, The Sprint to Freedom, I show how to look for DOLLARS and not products. But, here are today's finds, that I've either set up appointments for this afternoon or tomorrow to go and look at, OR I've at least contacted these people with my interest. http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/mcy/1082151908.html TOMOS moped. I have a dealer at the end of my street who can work on these and they sell quickly. http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/zip/1083093029.html Worth taking a look at, and if nothing else, I'll eat lunch at the Hartville Kitchen so as not to waste a trip. If this RV doesn't smell or need underbody work, it could be a very quick turn around. http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/rvs/1082218481.html http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/bfs/1081558658.html These are from an "imprinting" business...might be good to make sample MUGS for restaurant giveaways (If the T shirt printer had been available, I would have snagged it). http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/pho/1074465943.html Still a bread and butter item. I'll try to get a lower price, but I have people who teach at U of A and KSU nearby who have students in need of cameras. PS. It's Spring Break. In about 2 months, thousands of college students will be leaving the schools, and leaving a lot of "junk" behind...and you know what they say about one man's junk. None of these things will take much time to look at, and there is potential there to make a week's wages in a few hours of time. Gordon |

![]() Count me in on both chatteling and toll positions. I'm not quite sure how the toll position works, and would definitely like working with others to get going.

![]() I have a client and a friend from Texas, who was out of a job and needed some money fast.
While we were discussing the problem, I asked him if he had ever sold at flea markets. He said he had always thought about it but never knew where to get products, without selling the same thing as everyone else. So we brain stormed and found a possible Toll Position product, so he invested $50.00 in a booth space and setup for a weekend. In that two day period he made $5,000.00 after all expenses and he has repeated that same process probably 4 or 5 times since then, with the same results. Even though he has found a full time job, that keeps him on the road a lot, he wants to setup again this summer. All we did was take two of Gordon's ideas, chatteling and Toll Positions and combined them to make great money for my client and friend. Last edited by MichaelRoss : April 8, 2009 at 05:08 AM. |

![]() As the list of products that I have exclusive rights to grows, I find myself needing more and more reps to call on all kinds of businesses.
Does any one have any suggestions as to the easiest way to find them? Last edited by MichaelRoss : April 8, 2009 at 05:09 AM. |

It depends on who you want to attract to sell your items. I was a manufacturers rep for years. The all stars were working commission-only but in a high-commission, usually stable industrial market with very high priced products. They are generally smarter than you and can sniff out in a heartbeat whether your product(s) are going to make them big bucks. Generally, they get work by networking and do not respond to ads or other nonsense. They jump around a lot and are predatory about big paychecks. If you are not paying, are weak in any way, or offering unrealistic numbers, they are gone. The other group work salary plus commission. They are much more stable, there are more of them, and they are your average sales reps. The good ones expect a decent salary AND an aggressive commission. If they travel by plane or many overnighters, salary expectation goes up a lot. They are generally more corporate guys used to dealing with expense accounts, company cars and the like. They are good with realistic sales goals, weekly reports, notebook computers, and moderate overall achievement. These guys usually network within their respective industry for work but they do respond to ads (newspaper, career builder, monster, etc.). The third group that I have seen are the ones that are not meant for sales. They respond to ads that say "potentially make 40k your first month!!!". They think they can sell but both they and their "employer" are disillusioned. They go sell cars, insurance, cellular plans and other such stuff that the real sales guys tend to stay away from. There is a fourth group, but I haven't seen them around in a while. They are the old school guys. They have a binder and run all over creation in their Ford Taurus. They represent several companies at once and are not committed to any although when they are selling you, you would think they are. They talk a lot and work on building relationships. They sell enough to get by but not much more. I don't know where you find these guys anymore. It is very hard to find good salesmen. The hot-shot/top-gun ones are working and do not need your bs piddly commissions. The 2nd group is your optimum group and there might be quite a few out there now that the market is diving. You could get them for a song now, I would imagine. The third group you should avoid. That's my take. Darren |
