Climate for Direct Mail Now?

I have an intuition that anyone sending out direct mail now in the U.S. is going to get a better response than seven months ago, because there's less commercial mail now and thus less competition for one's message.

Anyone agree or disagree - or better yet, have any data or direct experience on this to offer?

mail delivery is down. Has been due to 9-11 and the recession (or whatever they are now calling it). The stats provided by the USPS prove it. Consequently YOUR direct mail pieces should get more visibility.

Direct mail is still a terrific opportunity, combine in with cheap order taking provided by the Internet and you could have a nice income stream.

Take care,
