Digital or print - some considerations

Anyone who's interested in deciding whether to publish digitally or on paper or both, here's an article I've just posted that can help you appreciate the advantages and disadvantages of each option:

you've done a lot of publishing and I wonder
if you could share how you got started in this
field and more about your feelings on selling
information direct using direct marketing online
and offline...I'd like to know about some of
the people who have influenced you to do what
you do...

Sandy,

I've been turning words into money for 21 years now. The short answer to how I got started is that I learned that there was going to be a new section of the NY Times on education, got a brainstorm for an article in that section, sent in a query letter and ended up publishing my first article in that new Sunday section.

Then for ten years I wrote for national magazines and published a couple of books.

It wasn't till 1992 that I started various entrepreneurial self-publishing ventures, including booklets (I sold about 6,000 copies of my second and third booklets each, at $2 a pop) and audiotapes.

The report from which that article is excerpted includes a lot of what I learned from both print and digital booklet/report projects.

The person from whom I learned the most about this business is also someone with whom I unfortunately had a number of frightening experiences. He threatened to harm me and ruin me(really!) after I refused to endorse a new book of his that I thought was half-baked.

Best,
Marcia Yudkin
