Default Getting Noticed

For many years I used my skill as a performer and magician to create fun situations and develop relationships.

Often it was just doing a simple magic trick or saying something off-beat to grab attention.

I've noticed that in business situations or chamber of commerce meetings or BNI meetings, you can't just do a trick willy-nilly... however, I have often done tricks to make a point. Once, I created a special trick for a famous sports figure that so pleased him , that he gave me his personal phone number !

The point I want to make is that these days, you've got to do something that gets you noticed ! I don't believe that it has to be right-in-your-face though.

I often used the old technique of sending a framed, in-glass, newspaper article of a prospect being awarded a prize by the governor or president, along with a picture in the article. It ALWAYS made an impact.

Giving away little gifts wherever you are helps smooth the way.

This is why I like Glenn Osborn's tipping strategy. It is something that gets attention, yet is also subtle. Giving a tip through out the meal via lotto tickets, cash, sunglasses, or whatever makes a person stand out.

The bottom-line in my mind is to make the person feel better because they interacted with you ! The book, The Golden Rule of Schmoozing, by Aye Jaye expresses this very well. This book is a guidebook on treating others well.

Getting back to Glenn's tipping strategy, I think it works so well because it is simple, has a high degree of impact, and almost anyone can do it. If ya gotta eat, you might as well go out, have fun, and see how many people will come up to you wanting to know who you are at the meal. Why not make a game out of it and see how many times you can go out to eat and have someone want to talk with you !

Even if you don't do it for business, do it to have some fun !
