Re: Different Business Models of Publishing & Marketing
You had the perfect picture of serenity until you got to the snake part
I pictured a giant Anaconda as you were describing it. Then, I re-read what you wrote and took note of the 5' part! I suppose the marketing lesson is, it stinks being a snake without your own opt-in list... or something like that. To this day, I'm well persuaded that most online marketers are chasing squirrels for a living. Like your friend that fell out of the tree, they wrestling and waste far too much energy on "one squirrel." Instead, repackage the same information and target the business sector. All you need is an epublication or two under your belt to get started. That's how I did it. Then, you don't have to waste time everyday posting on every social site under the sun. You can spend time with family and friends. And you can update your blog, send out newsletters and do everything else at a much more relaxed pace. The key is to offer "value" with your products and services. I do the online publicity for a few TV shows in Tampa and Sarasota. You would think they have their own staff to do these things. They don't! They outsource. I used my mailing service to send out the mail for a Republican and Democratic Senator at my service at www.worldresponders.com. They send me the text and news releases - I send them out to the media. They send my company one email and they don't have to do another thing. I started the service back in 1997 to send my own emails out and then thought... I wonder if I could market this service to the commercial sector? The value comes in because they're not just paying to have an email "blast" account. They're paying national exposure which I have linked to my other site at www.mynationalpublicity.com If I did the reverse and marketed these two services to "residential" individuals, I'd have twice the volume of work with half the profit. Instead, I just reverse everything and target bigger companies and organizations. I have half the clients but triple the income. Funny thing is; I discovered this while trying to market my publications to "Joe the Plumber." I always wanted to be Joe's friend. I hated the corporate world and everything to do with at. After I plugged into the credit union back in the 90's and saw how much money the business had as compared to the private sector... that's all the convincing I needed. I should probably concentrate my online time these days to showing people how to do what I'm doing these days. That way I can spend my playtime writing about one of my favorite subjects in the world.
