![]() Pete:
I got this mic: http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHB1 after reading good reviews about it on some "home music studio" type forums. I like it. There are some customer reviews of it here: http://www.zzounds.com/productreview--BEHB1 Here's one of the reviews: "I bought a pair of Behringer B-1's because the price was only $99. I figured they'd be so-so. I was completely blown away by them when I started using these mics! They sound natural, smooth and silky and very neutral with no coloration, other than the presense rise, which is on the sweet end, not harsh at all. I use them mostly for voiceover work and they work nicely up-close for that big, powerful sound. And they are quiet. Not much noise at all gets into the mix. I use them with a Behringer MX-1804X mixing desk and the combo sings nicely." Maybe something like this could save you some cash. |

![]() I'll check out the information on that mic. Might be just what I'm looking for.
Don't really believe you've got to spend hundreds on a good mic.. I've had some pretty good success with the Shure's back in the old days. ![]() Pete |

![]() No problem Pete. I have a feeling you can save a bunch on the sound card and the pre-amp too.
Check out the Tascam US-122 USB audio interface: http://www.zzounds.com/item--TASUS122 I got it used on eBay a while ago for around $135. They seem to be going for about $110-$120 used on eBay now. Or $150 new. It plugs in to your computer's USB port. It's powered by USB and sends the sound in through USB too. It has phantom power for your mics and it's own sound card. You'll have your sound card and pre-amp all in one package. I bet with the mic and the Tascam US-122 and some recording software, you would have a great sounding setup (and for a lot less than the costs you mentioned before). Actually, the Tascam also comes with some software included, but I've never used it. Do you have a Mac or a pc? Bill |

![]() Hi Bill,
I really appreciate all the info you've passed along! I've made notes, and will check it all out. Once was a time I could sit down in a studio with a reel-to-reel, pair of scissors, razor blade, a roll of editing tape and a grease pencil and do wonders! ![]() That was then, and this is now.. It's a whole new world now and I've got a lot to learn. BTW.. I'm using a PC. Thanks again.. You can bet I'll have a lot of questions before I'm done.. Like, does the mic plug right into the sound card? ![]() Pete |

No problem. Yes, the Tascam US-122 features 2 XLR-based, phantom-powered mic inputs. The mic I wrote about before plugs right into it (it has an XLR connector at the end of the mic cord. Actually, now that I think about it, you have to buy the mic cord separately (i.e. - not included with the microphone). Get a cord with XLR connectors. Since you have a PC, you'd be able to use the software that comes with the Tascam. If you have any more questions, let me know. Bill |
